We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of university students from Playa del Carmen to Ekumal for an ecological tour and immersive learning experience focused on regenerative architecture and sustainable living systems.

During the visit, we explored how thoughtful design can work in harmony with nature rather than against it. Students learned about several of the ecological principles that guide the development of Ekumal, including super adobe construction, solar energy systems, natural water filtration, and syntropic agroforestry. Each system demonstrates how architecture, ecology, and community can come together to create spaces that regenerate the land instead of depleting it.
Experiential learning like this is especially meaningful to us. By opening Ekumal as a living example of ecological design, we hope to inspire curiosity, creativity, and responsibility in the next generation of architects, designers, and environmental stewards. The future of architecture will depend on young minds who are willing to rethink conventional building practices and imagine new ways of living in balance with the planet.
